Global warming is a long term phenomenon, at a world-wide scale, of increasing atmosphere and ocean average temperatures. Human activity is pointed out to be the main reason of this phenomenon. We can act by doing simple things (selectively sorting trash, reducing our water use, using mass transportation means, ...).

Nowadays, an european citizen emits an avergage of 2 tons of carbon (CO2).
From another side, an return flight in Europe is equivalent to 1 ton of carbon (CO2).
The Cart'étincelle is a simple mean to compensate for its emissions through the financement of specific programs.

> The carbon compensation programs
Compensate those emissions, means making investments in a program able to spare a certain quantity of Greenhouse gaz emission in the atmosphere, contributing this way to reduce impact on the climate.

5Continents has selectionated several projects struggling against global warming. Those programs are operated by EcoAct, a major player of carbon compensation and its local partners.

> The projects respect the following specifications:

additionality : the project does not replace an action that would have been realized without the contribution of the compensation.

measurability : the quantity of carbon avoided or confined is measurable.

checking : the verification of the tons of carbon effectively avoided or confined is performed by independent organisms.

The economical, environmental and social benefits: the project creates jobs and income for the local population and contributes to the respect of the environment.

The projects follow rigorously the methodologies fixed by the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) in the frame of the CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) defined under the KYOTO PROTOCOL.

They are all evaluated by an independent auditor, referenced by UN, that guarantees aditionality and the technical rigor in the implementation of the methodologies. The projects produce Checked Emission Reductions.

They fully respect the Chart for colunteer compensation of ADEME.
