BURKINA FASO
Production and valuation of Arabic Gum
Fight against desertification
REFORESTATION IN BURKINA FASO

THE CONTEXT
In Burkina Faso, the population lives mainly on agriculture. In a context of desertification and accelerated degradation of natural resources, we propose a Senegal Locust tree plantation program with two main objectives :

  1. Generate incomes thanks to the sales of the produced gum arabic and allow the populations to stay on their lands,
  2. Restore the ground fertility and biodiversity;.

THE PROGRAM
This program is executed by Eco-Act
  • Plantation of 9 375 "Senegal Locust" trees on 15 ha on 3 provinces of Burkina Faso, followed over 20 years.
  • Empowerment of local organizations and transfer of the know-how to ensure real autonomy on the long-term.
  • Additional income for 800 families.
