THE CONTEXT The sub-saharienne forest is one of the most spread and degraded. The forest in Senegal has shrank by 300 km in 40 years. Local populations are the first victims of this degradation as more than 70 of locals are dependant on the forest to live. In Senegal, the climate change is already reality and will get worse. Scientists agree on the fact that tempetures in this area will increase from 2.77 to 5.55 degree Celcius during the 21st Century, even if we reduce gaz emissions. It is therefore critical to prepare the local populations for this climate change. |
| THE PROGRAM
The enterprise Kinomé manages this project Trees & Life relies on the forest to restore ecosystems, repare the climate and improve the local population life conditions. Trees & Life develops Ecovillages in which 250 000 trees are planted, being bushes, hurdles, agroforestry and orchards. Half of these trees are fruit trees, generating revenues to local families and improving their nutrition. The other trees help biodiversity development. In four years, the program aims for more than 20 million trees planted, 60 000 ha of protected forest and better life conditions for more than 100 000 people. |

THE VALUES ASSOCIATED WITH THE PROGRAM

THE EVALUATIONS Kinomé ensure the monitoring and the verification of the program. Frequent audits are realized, indicators are monitored to evaluate the social, economic and environmental benefits. A complete program dashboard is built every year. |
